Compare Portia: DPP & PLM Software Alternatives for Fashion Brands

Short answer: To compare Digital Product Passport (DPP) and PLM software, start from where your product data lives today, not from how the passport page looks. Then compare how each tool collects material and supplier data, which passport levels and data carriers it supports, and how you get your data out. This page collects our comparisons and buyer’s guides in one place, so you can shortlist two or three tools and test them with your own products.

How to compare DPP and PLM tools

Most DPP and PLM tools look similar in a demo. The differences show up in five places:

  1. Where the data comes from. Does the tool build passports from product development data, from a PLM or ERP you already run, or from data you collect separately at the end of the season?
  2. Supplier data. Can suppliers log in to add their own data and certificates, and which supplier tiers does the tool cover?
  3. Passport level and data carrier. Can you choose passports per style, batch or individual item, and which data carriers (QR codes, NFC, RFID) are supported?
  4. Integrations and exit. Which systems does it connect to, such as your webshop, and can you export all your data whenever you want?
  5. Pricing model. Ask how pricing is structured (for example by products, passports or users) and what changes as your range grows.

Then pilot the best fit with 10 to 20 of your own styles. Our buyer’s guide turns these five areas into 25 questions to ask every vendor.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between DPP software and PLM software?

PLM software manages product development: styles, materials, suppliers, costing, samples and approvals. DPP software publishes product data as a Digital Product Passport behind a data carrier such as a QR code. Some tools do one or the other. Portia can be your PLM and your passport tool at the same time, or run alongside an existing PLM or ERP via data import.

What should I compare when choosing DPP or PLM software?

Start from where your product data lives today. Then compare how each tool collects material and supplier data, which passport levels and data carriers it supports, which integrations it offers, how you get your data out, how pricing is structured and what happens if you leave. Pilot the best fit with a few of your own styles.

How do you keep these comparisons fair?

Facts about other vendors come only from their own public pages, and each comparison shows the date we read them. We also say when another tool is likely a better fit than Portia. If something has changed, email [email protected] and we will check and update it.

Do I need to replace my current PLM to use Portia?

No. You can import data from your existing PLM or ERP into Portia and publish passports from it. Portia has no ready-made connectors to other PLMs, but custom integrations are available on request.

How much does Portia cost?
